April 17, 2007 Reorganization Meeting Minutes

OFFICIAL MINUTES
OF THE
CITY OF KEWAUNEE COMMON COUNCIL
REORGANIZATION MEETING
APRIL 17, 2007

Present: Mayor Blaha, Alderman Vollenweider, LuMaye, Brown, Zenner, Jeske, Sperber

Absent: Rabas (excused)

Others: City Administrator Kranz, Public Works Director Balleine, City Attorney Wolske, Dick and Norma Bell, Harry Luedtke, Barb Ludlow

Mayor Blaha called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. whereas the Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by meditation.

Administrator Kranz administered the oath of office to newly elected Alderman Jeff Vollenweider, Chris Brown, Michelle Jeske, and Jamie Sperber.

Zenner nominated Alderman Vollenweider for Council President. With no further nominations, Zenner moved and LuMaye seconded to elect Alderman Vollenweider as Council President. Upon a roll call vote, motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Blaha provided the Council with the "Rules of Order" for Common Council Meetings to which Vollenweider moved and Zenner seconded for approval. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Blaha presented to the Council his mayoral appointments to committees and boards to which Sperber moved and Jeske seconded for approval. Motion carried unanimously.

Vollenweider moved and LuMaye seconded to establish the second Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. as the regular Council meeting dates; the second Monday of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. as the regular Finance Committee meeting dates; and the last Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. as the Public Works Committee meeting dates; with the Public Property and Personnel Committees meeting as needed. Motion carried unanimously.

LuMaye moved and Brown seconded to designate the Kewaunee County News as the City’s official newspaper for publication of required notices for 2007. Motion carried unanimously.

LuMaye moved and Zenner seconded to designate Union State Bank and the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) as the official depositories for 2007. Motion carried unanimously.

The Council received notice of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities New Municipal Officials Workshop and Regional Dinner Meeting. Any interested council member wanting to attend is to notify Administrator Kranz.

Zenner moved and Vollenweider seconded to approve the 2007 Marina/Campground Summer Hires of Ronald Pelnar ($9.55 per hour), Dan Pence, Tiffany Polifka, Adam Brezinski, and alternate Jake Schoemann ($8.88 per hour) effective May 15, 2007. Motion carried unanimously. It was noted that Ron Pelnar will act as assistant manager in Manager Luedtke’s absence.

Mayor Blaha and Administrator Kranz provided the newly elected Alderman ministerial information and updates on current activities. Not to overwhelm them, any information or questions they have can be asked later to Administrator Kranz or Mayor Blaha.

Mayor Blaha publicly congratulated the 7th Grade Girls for winning the State Basketball Championship.

Vollenweider moved and LuMaye seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:33 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
