April 21, 2009 Reorganization Meeting

OFFICIAL MINUTES
OF THE
CITY OF KEWAUNEE COMMON COUNCIL
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
APRIL 21, 2009

 

Present: Mayor Blaha, Alderman Kostka, Vollenweider, LuMaye, Kunkel, Zenner, Jeske,D. Kickbusch, Sperber

Absent: None

Others: Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Pelishek, Public Works Director Balleine, City Attorney Wolske

Mayor Blaha called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. whereas the Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by meditation.

Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Pelishek administered the oath of office to newly elected Aldermen Jeff Vollenweider, Mark Kunkel, Michelle Jeske, and Jamie Sperber.

Zenner moved and Kostka seconded to nominate Alderman Vollenweider for Council President. Sperber moved and LuMaye seconded to nominate Alderman Jeske for Council President. Upon a paper ballot cast and tabulated, Alderman Jeske was elected Council President by a 5 to 3 vote.

Mayor Blaha provided the Council with the "Rules of Order" for Common Council Meetings to which LuMaye moved and D. Kickbusch seconded for approval. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Blaha presented to the Council his mayoral appointments to positions, committees and boards to which Jeske moved and Sperber seconded for approval. Motion carried unanimously.

Kostka moved and Vollenweider seconded to establish the second Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. as the regular Council meeting dates; the second Monday of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. as the regular Finance Committee meeting dates; and the last Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. as the Public Works Committee meeting dates; with the Public Property and Personnel Committees meeting as needed. Motion carried unanimously.

Zenner moved and Sperber seconded to designate the Kewaunee County News as the City’s official newspaper for publication of required notices for 2009. Motion carried unanimously.

Jeske moved and Vollenweider seconded to designate Union State Bank and the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) as the official depositories for 2009. Motion carried unanimously.

Sperber reported on the new visitkewauneecounty.com web site.

Vollenweider moved and Kostka seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:13 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
