August 11, 2008 Regular Meeting Minutes

OF THE
CITY OF KEWAUNEE COMMON COUNCIL
REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 11, 2008

Present: Mayor Blaha, Alderman Kostka, LuMaye, Brown, Zenner, Jeske, D. Kickbusch, Sperber

Absent: Vollenweider (excused)

Others: Ambulance Director Grulkowski, Willard Kickbusch, Barb Ludlow

Mayor Blaha called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. whereas the Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by meditation.

The Council received the Finance Committee minutes of July 14, 2008.

Zenner moved and Sperber seconded to approve the Operator’s License as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.

Zenner moved and LuMaye seconded to approve the July 2008 Accounts Payables in the amount of $159,599.09. Upon a roll call vote, motion carried unanimously.

The Council received the Public Works Committee minutes of July 14 and 29, 2008.

D. Kickbusch moved and Jeske seconded to award the 2009 Local Road Improvement Bid to Kewaunee County Highway Department in the amount of $36,295.00. Upon a roll call vote, motion carried unanimously.

D. Kickbusch moved and Jeske seconded to adopt the City of Kewaunee Cross Connection Control Plan as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.

The Council received the Tourism & Promotion Committee minutes of July 9, 2008.

Zenner moved and Sperber seconded to approve the Regular Council Meeting minutes of July 14, 2008. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Blaha commented that there are some residents misusing their fire pits to burn garbage or other materials not acceptable according to the ordinance. Residents need to be considerate of their neighbors and consider the appropriate wind direction when using their fire pits.

Mayor Blaha commented that the use of weed killer around trees, signs and posts on the tree lawn is prohibited.Mayor Blaha stated that patience needs to be applied by people with projects needing to be completed by the Public Works Department considering the department being short handed. Staffing of the department will be reviewed before year end.

D. Kickbusch commented that he had spoke to the Veolia driver who stated that the policy change on stickers being applied only to the bags and not the containers has made his job much easier.

Mayor Blaha indicated that the parking on one side only on First Street between Miller Street and Ellis Street is still being reviewed along with any other changes that may need to be made to the parking restrictions of the Municipal Code.

With the regular meeting of the Council on September 8th being in conflict with the opener of the Green Bay Packers, the Council agreed to change the meeting date to September 9th. [Administrator footnote: Because September 9th is the Primary Election Day, Mayor Blaha has changed the meeting to September 15th.]

Kickbusch moved and Brown seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:32 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
