Open Burning Ordinance: Ordinance #512-01 Sec. 54-68
a. Open Burning prohibited. Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, no person shall cause or permit any open burning of fuel, garbage, or other combustible refuse or waste material, including leaves, brush, tree trimmings and grass. Open burning means fire burning in matter, whether concentrated or dispersed, which is not contained within a fully enclosed firebox, structure or vehicle and from which the products of combustion are emitted directly to the open atmosphere without passing through a stack, duct or chimney. The use of burn barrels is prohibited.
b. Open burning exemptions. Open burning of the types, and subject to the conditions as hereinafter stated, shall be exempt from the prohibition of subsection (a) of this section.
a. Recreational fire set for cooking, warming, or ceremonial purposes kept under constant supervision and which is not more than three feet in diameter by three feet high, and has had the ground five feet from the base of the fire cleared of all combustible material. Such fire shall be contained within a fire ring of noncombustible material no closer than ten feet to an abutting property line or any building. The only material which may be burned is wood. "Wood" means dry, clean fuel only such as twigs, branches, limbs, "presto logs", charcoal, cord wood or untreated dimensional lumber. "Wood" does not include wood that is green, leaves or needles, rotten, wet, oil-soaked or treated with paint, glue or preservatives. No fire shall be left smoldering but shall be completely extinguished prior to retiring for the evening.
b. Cooking fire contained in a charcoal grill, camp stove or other device designed for the purpose of cooking or smoking using charcoal or a non-ash-producing fuel when used for the exclusive preparation of food for human consumption.
