City of Kewaunee, 401 Fifth Street, Kewaunee, WI 54216 920-388-5000   info@cityofkewaunee.org The Marquette Historic District is a distinctive residential neighborhood of fine homes located in the city of Kewaunee.  The Marquette Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, consists of forty-three homes and a school in a compact area south of Kewaunee’s central business district. The area developed as a prestigious neighborhood for some of Kewaunee’s leading businessmen beginning in the 1880’s and continuing into the early twentieth century.  Most of the house have been carefully maintained over the years and both they and the neighborhood as a whole are unusually well- preserved. The homes within the District represent a variety of architectural styles popular during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.  You will find Italianate, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Craftsman, Prairie, American Foursquare and various Period Revival styles of architecture, among others, all within a few blocks of each other. A self-guided walking/driving tour provides a relaxing way to view this lovely neighborhood.  Booklets for the tour are available from City Hall and the Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce.
